Electric Scenes is the debut EP by Boston’s Soft Pyramids, out digitally and on digi pack March 10th 2011.

Soft Pyramids formed in the fall of 2009 after the break up of John Herter’s (Drums) and Jon Christensen’s (Guitar) previous project Bwate, for which Dwight Hutchenson (Vocals / Guitar) helped out on the last part of their record.  The three continued to play, and with the addition of Shaun Curran (Bass) the line up was complete. Bonding over a shared love for Television and Brian Eno’s Here Comes the Warm Jets they quickly developed the tightness of a seasoned unit and started writing the tracks that would become their 4 song demo, released in February 2010.

Electric Scenes was written and recorded over the summer / fall of 2010 at the Napoleon Complex in Somerville, Mass by bassist Shaun Curran.  Focusing on quality over quantity, Electric Scenes is an impressive first statement of slick, melodic, hip-shaking rock and roll with the swagger of Television and The Strokes.  Dwight’s vocals soar over the layered guitars in the jaunty, momentum-building single “Prisoner’s Tune.”  The ethereal and esoteric closer “The Way You’re Going” evokes early Radiohead with Dwight flexing his voice into Thom Yorke range and Jon washing the track in delayed guitar interplay.  Soft Pyramids will start writing and recording a full-length album and have plans to hit the road later this year.

Recommended For Fans Of:  Television, The Strokes,  Franz Ferdinand

“Dwightsnake” was The Boston Phoenix MP3 of the Week for 3.3.2011

Shaun (bass) is from Maine and is also a recording engineer who’s worked with some Boston-based artists including Soccer Mom, Greg Lyon, Sarah Borges in addition to being the engineer/producer.

Dwight was previously in By’r Lady,  based in Clemson, South Carolina.

SOFT PYRAMIDS’ debut EP, a detached-cool rock and roll afterparty racket that recalls a late-’70s Lower East Side punk attitude with nary and electronic device in sight (or sound).  The Boston Phoenix MP3 of the Week 3.3.2011
