The Big Big Bucks – “Futurecar” (MP3)
Crucial Schmooze is the debut LP by the Boston quartet The Big Big Bucks, to be released March 9th on Static Eye Records.
Initially taking a more-is-more stance, The Bucks were known to be playing somewhere in the greater Boston area at least once a week since their first show in 2006. They recorded the Rabbit Rabbit EP with Jack Younger (Eli “Paperboy” Reed, The Dead Trees) at Basement 247 Studios to local applause, including MP3 of The Week in the Boston Phoenix. The band began recording songs with Younger the following year, which would yield the Crucial Schmooze LP.
Consistently aggressive but itching with melody, Crucial Schmooze draws from camps like The Breeders, The Rentals, and Hot Snakes. These are twelve pop songs on a serious bender: raucous, self-assured, and begging to be played on your local dive-bar’s jukebox.
The band will celebrate the release of their LP with a March 5th party at O’Briens in Allston with Babydriver, The Diamond Mines, and Four Eyes. It will be their 237th show. The next day they will climb into “Van Diesel” and embark on a month-long national tour with an extended stay in Austin during South By Southwest.
The Big Big Bucks are guitarist Chris Basso, guitarist/keyboardist Ian Gustafson, bassist/vocalist Joey McHugh, and drummer Mike Tucker.

“The Big Big Bucks blend the anvil-heavy blues rock of early Zeppelin with the melodicism of classic pop in a sod-off punk-rock sorta way that would make Kurt Cobain proud. —The Boston Phoenix on 1/09/08 :: more
